The 2016 State Fair of Texas is set to kick off on Sept. 30 and continue through Oct. 23 at Fair Park in Dallas. The event is designed to promote agricultural education through entertainment, art, agricultural history, and cuisine.

The theme of this year’s event is “Celebrating Texas Agriculture.”

“Every year we host millions of visitors, with the ultimate goal of bringing people together for a quality event that is unique to our great state,” said Mitchell Glieber, State Fair of Texas president. “Although agriculture plays a key role in our daily lives, it is not something we often stop and think about – especially those of us living in urban areas like Dallas.”

On Tuesday, October 11, fairgoers will be able to celebrate Ag Awareness Day. Some of the other events that will be hosted throughout the duration of the fair include livestock tours, wine tasting, pumpkin carving, and chainsaw carving demonstrations. There will also be exhibits and activities specifically for children, such as the milking demonstration and children’s aquarium.

“With fairgoers coming from both urban and rural backgrounds, we strive to promote agriculture to all visitors through our educational opportunities that are as enjoyable as they are informative,” continued Glieber.

Season passes to the 2016 State Fair of Texas start at $95 online. There is also a family four-pack option for $99. The fair itself has been in existence since 1886 when it was a livestock exposition. The State Fair of Texas is a nonprofit that donates proceeds to improve Fair Park.
