The revving of engines and the hum of used farm equipment were familiar sounds for attendees of the Kansas Winter Nationals Antique Tractor Pull, as the Kansas Pavillions were full of classic tractors and eager onlookers, according to The Wichita Eagle.

The newspaper reported that the annual event featured used John Deere tractors from a range of years, as antique models were brought by their owners to the competition. Although the entrants tended to stay positive, despite the outcome of their respective race or pull, a level of competitive racing was present.

"A lot of us have a deep interest in antique tractors," event organizer Curtis Rink of Wichita told the Eagle. "This, really, is the competitive side of collecting, operating and storing antique tractors."

Several attendees told the news source that the object of the event was to win, but the pride in the performance of their favorite used tractor was what kept many competitors coming back each year.

According to the event's website, several national champions participated in the 2012 event, and the variety of competitive divisions reflected the available resources for each of the drivers.
