Those who run farm equipment in California are being reminded of a number of things they should consider doing as the new year comes around.

Recently, Cynthia Cory, environmental affairs director for the California Farm Bureau Federation, wrote a piece for the group's website reminding producers in the state of three things they should do with the coming of 2010. The first thing she suggests is for farmers and ranchers to fill out a new survey put forward by the California Air Resources Board.

The new survey will be used to establish rules that will dictate upgrade requirements for farm equipment in the state. A similar survey was done in 2008, which was used to establish rules for on-road vehicles.

"The information from this new off-road survey will be used in the same manner, to develop a rule that will provide air quality improvements where it makes the most sense while at the same time moderating cost impacts to producers as much as possible," Cory wrote.

The other two things she suggests producers do is to get an odometer reading for their on-road trucks, while the third involves getting compliance forms in for the diesel rules established through the on-road survey.
