Dairy farmers in Colorado have been facing tough times.
Like other producers, dairy farmers in Colorado may face a variety of expenses, including those associated with farm equipment.

However, times in the dairy industry have been difficult lately, as farmers deal with falling commodity prices. As a result, farmers in the state may be eligible for money made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

According to the website of U.S. Democratic Senator Michael Bennet, $290 million is being made available for dairy farmers in the U.S. through the USDA's Dairy Economic Loss Assistance Payment. Bennet said the Obama administration was correct in getting the funds to farmers in a quick manner.

"Between sinking prices for their product and a continuing credit crunch, Colorado's dairy industry is struggling and needs some help," Bennet said.

According to the USDA, in order for dairy farmers to be eligible for the program, they must have produced and marketed milk in the U.S. from February through July of this year. They also must have production data from that time period and have to certify their data.
