When members of the armed forces are away taking care of duties overseas, they won't get a chance to pull out their used tractors and take care of their lawns.

Meanwhile, their family members may also have their own problems getting the chore done as they try to run a household by themselves. However, Iowa's Megan Hawley is getting a little help, according to a recent report from the Des Moines Register.

The paper noted that Hawley, whose husband Lance is serving in Afghanistan for the next year, is having her lawn taken care of by a local landscaping company, which is offering to provide the service for free.

"It's amazing," Hawley told the paper. "I have no idea how to turn on a lawn mower. I have no idea how to do any of that."

People who are interested in taking their used tractors out for similar volunteer efforts may consider helping the GreenCare for Troops, an initiative put on by Project EverGreen. The program helps the families of servicemembers keep their lawn in good order while their troops are away.
