The John Deere Classic, slated for July 9 through July 12, is expected to once again yield strong competition this year. In particular, Jordan Spieth will be watched closely, as he has a chance to win golf’s “Grand Slam” in 2015, following victories at the Masters and U.S. Open.

Other golfers who are joining Spieth at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., include Zach Johnson, Steve Stricker and Johnathan Byrd, all of who have won the tournament in the past. Vijay Singh, David Toms and Sean O’Hair, who are also past champions, will be participating in this year’s event. A total of 28 of the players who were in the U.S. Open last month will be at TPC Deere Run.

The University of Illinois will have a strong presence this week in Silvis, represented by Stricker and recent graduate, Brian Campbell. This will be Campbell’s professional debut, receiving a sponsor exemption to play in the event. Scott Langley and Luke Guthrie will also represent the Illini at the tournament.

In total, there will be 156 players from the PGA Tour at the event, with Brian Harman serving as the defending champion. The purse is currently set at $4.7 million, with $846,000 put aside for the winner. An “Anyday” grounds pass costs $30 at the gate for those who wish to attend.

TPC Deere Run has rolling hills and views of Rock River for golfers to enjoy as they play. Additionally, fans and players will enjoy the views of John Deere equipment that will be scattered throughout the grounds.
