John Deere recently introduced a new line of oil for use in both farm equipment and off-road vehicles.

The Plus-50 II Premium Engine Oil is intended for use in high-speed, four-stroke diesel engines, along with some small on-road vehicles. The new oil replaces the company's Plus-50 type, which is one of the companies most used engine lubricants.

"Tests show that Plus-50 II allows for extended oil change intervals up to 500 hours, or nearly twice the engine hours of typical engine oils," Sheri Barta, product line marketing manager for John Deere, said.

Barta added that the new oil is the recommended lubricant for the company's Interim Tier 4 engines and provides the "maximum" in corrosion protection for these machines. It does so by controlling against sludge while reducing oxidation, which increases the length of time the oil can be used in an engine.

The oil comes in two viscosities (SAE 15W-40 and 10W-30) and meets the requirements put forward by most diesel engine manufacturers.

Changing an engine's oil is one of the most important things a person can do in order to lengthen the life of their machines. In order to get the optimal performance from farm equipment, operators should make sure to check owner's manuals for the exact oil specifications required for their engines.
