While many producers busily take to harvesting grain with farm equipment, other agriculture enthusiasts may do the same thing in the virtual world.

FarmVille, a popular game on social networking site Facebook, gives participants the chance to grow and manage their own farm. According to its page, there are nearly 60 million active users who sow seeds and raise grain every month through their virtual fields.

Farmers Insurance announced recently it will add its own flair to the popular game by featuring its 246-foot compnay airship. By adding the flying machine to a farm, users will get 10 days of wither protection for their virtual crops.

"We are thrilled to offer virtual protection which mirrors the protection we provide to millions of people every day with our home, automobile, business and life insurance products," said Farmers vice president of ebusiness Marc Zeitlin.

Along with playing farm-related video games, consumers can use the internet to make purchases for items like farm equipment or used tractors. Doing so may result in saving money on products.
