According to the Visalia Times-Delta, students in the Tulare City School District got to tour a farm located at a local high school. As part of a week celebrating the FFA, students from kindergarten to third grade got to check out how farms, and farm equipment, work.
Chris McKenna, an agriculture teacher in the area, said that teaching kids about the farming industry may steer them toward it when considering a career path later in life.
"It ties them into the farm industry," McKenna told the paper.
FFA Week wasn't only celebrated in California. Edward Rendell, governor of Pennsylvania, recently declared that the state would honor the national organization during the final week of February.
Pennsylvania also celebrated Teach Agriculture Day, which took place on February 25. Both that day and FFA Week were intended to highlight the state's connection to the agriculture industry, which accounts for $5.8 billion dollars produced in Pennsylvania every year.
