According to the Tampa Bay Tribune, thousands of dollars worth of farm equipment was stolen from a pasture two weeks ago. The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft, which occurred between September 3 and September 6 near Lakeland, Florida.
"According to deputies, someone cut through a fence at a pasture across from Kentucky Avenue and Camp Mack Road, east of Lake Wales, and stole several pieces of equipment known as 'choppers,'" the report from the paper noted.
The farm equipment was located under an oak tree in the pasture. The machines are brown and are around 7 feet wide. The equipment contained barrels which are 39-inches in diameter.
In an unrelated theft, a Kansas man was recently arrested for allegedly stealing farm equipment from a property in Nebraska. Matthew T. Jones was charged with stealing the machinery, which included tractors and a prototype planter manufactured by the John Deere Corp.
When dealing with farm equipment theft, the National Equipment Register noted that people should report the crime to law enforcement officials as soon as it is noticed, and should provide them with product numbers for the stolen machinery.
