Is green building the future of construction industry?

While the housing marketing continues to struggle, home builders look for ways to continue construction and it seems some may have found the future of the industry in green construction.

When green products first came onto the market they were seen as too expensive to ever become a standard in home construction. But with the rising price of fuel and energy costs, more builders are incorporating it into their builds.

At last month's International Builder's Show in Las Vegas, Jack Campbell of Marhofer Campbell Development told the Ann Arbor Business Review that the increase in green building is not a fad.

"The green building practice is going to become the norm," Campbell said. "I don't think it's just a trend."

Campbell said that the builders who refuse to use green building technologies or are too far behind the curve are not going to make it very far.

"The people in the best position right now are willing to reinvent themselves," Campbell said.

Tomorrow the National Association of Home Builders will have a teleconference to discuss the National Green Building Standard which was recently approved by the American National Standards Institute.ADNFCR-2034-ID-19009627-ADNFCR
