According to a recent news release from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), John Deere’s 600 Series HydraFlex Draper Platform was awarded the 2013 Rain Bird Engineering Concept of the Year Award, which honors a unique contribution to the development of a new engineering concept.

The 600 Series HydraFlex Draper Platform received the award due to its innovative features which combine to harvest low-to-the ground crops, such as soybeans, lentils and peas consistently across the full width of the cut while traveling over uneven terrain at high ground speeds. Recognized design team members included, Bruce Coers, Chad Dow, Brian Herringshaw, Dan Hoffman, Alex Lassers, Mike Mossman, Jeff Nelson, Krishna Potluri and Corwin Puryk.

Also according to the news release, this same design was awarded a John Deere Innovation award and was a significant contributor to Deere becoming the first U.S. recipient, in 2011, of the Swedish Steel Prize, an award considered to be the Nobel Prize of the steel industry. In 2012, the design also “earned a 2012 ASABE AE50 award and the 2012 ASABE Quad City Section Outstanding Engineering Achievement award for its nine team members and for John Deere Global Crop Harvesting, Product Development Center, Silvis, Illinois.”
