Farming equipment was on display at Ridgeway Park in Red Bluff, California, courtesy of the Nor-Cal Tractor and Engine Club, the Red Bluff Daily News reported. Around 175 members strong, the club's three-day exhibition at Ridgeway Park has signaled the start of the season for about 10 years.
From spring to early fall, Branch 114 of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association runs events that showcase vintage tractors and used farm equipment. Drawing, for the most part, members of the local club, the Spring Gas-Up at Ridgeway Park is "just an excuse to get out here and play with our toys," organizer Bob Hunt told the news source.
The show saw from 35 to 40 tractors park on the grounds for the festivities, which included a procession of the machines as well as some competitive hauling. A 77-year-old Orland man, Elzy Stephens, took part - driving his 1951 John Deere tractor. The piece of farming machinery is one of the first diesel models that included a starting motor, Stephens told the media outlet.
John Deere continues to release new and more-effective equipment for those who work the land, like the 2011 line of 8R/8RT tractors. These implements have 235-horsepower, PowerTech, emissions-complying engines.
