With producers finding themselves using farm equipment later in the season, John Deere has worked to develop tractor lighting systems that will better illuminate work in the field.

A recent story from Montana's Prairie Star newspaper notes that the farm equipment company has worked to create lighting packages for its newer lines of farm equipment. Using computer software, the engineers developed lighting systems for the company's 8R and 8RT series of tractors.

"We've specifically built them to cover a 360-degree pattern around the tractor without having to be adjusted," Chad Hogan, John Deere product line marketing manager, told the paper.

The paper noted that though some pieces of farm equipment come with features that keep them running in a straight line, operators still need additional lighting in the dark in order to better see things that may be in the way. Furthermore, increasing widths in agricultural equipment have made good lighting that much more important.

This harvest, some farmers are finding themselves working more in the dark hours of the day. Wet weather has delayed many harvesting activities, which means farmers are taking to the fields with farm equipment while the sun set earlier.
