John Deere tractor stolen in Florida theft

Deputies that were on a stakeout in Levy County, Florida, arrested two men in connection with a theft of a tractor, which was going to be used to steal copper wire from an irrigation system, according to The Gainesville Sun.

The Levy County Sheriff's Office reported that the tractor - a John Deere model 5410 - was reported missing on Friday, July 1. Thieves stole the machine from a 1400 acre farm at 12550 SE 30th Street in Morrison, Florida, the news source reported.

Investigators told the news source that someone had taken the tractor out of the barn early Friday morning, and had used the vehicle to pull the copper wire from an irrigation pump on the peanut farm.

The two suspects were identified as residents of Inglis, Florida, and had been apprehended at gunpoint after attempting to steal the vehicle. Both of the men were charged with felony trespassing and petty theft, The Sun reported.

John Deere 4wd tractors feature a 81-horsepower engine with a rear lift capacity of 3,374 pounds, according to the company's website.
