The Unity, Maine Common Ground County Fair enlists the help of local volunteers each year to give residents a taste of the area's history in the agricultural industry, The Free Press reported.

A 1950 John Deere tractor was brought to the grounds by volunteers who rented a large pickup truck to bring the used farm equipment to the center of the town.

According to the news source, the volunteer staff meets early each morning before the fair in order to prepare for the more than 59,000 people that are expected at the event each year. From setting up the tables at the food stations to supplying the ATMs in the town with new cords, the residents help ready the area for visitors.

Residents of Unity helped to set up the 2011 fair, which lasted for three days at the end of festival season, according to the Free Press.

The 2011 fair featured events that ranged from owl stool assembly demonstrations to vegetable, flower and fruit judging. Residents could also participate in demonstrations that showed European mowing techniques for historic scythes, according to the event website.
