John Deere joined three additional groups in honoring a Southern Minnesota man as one of 2010's top 10 National Outstanding Young Farmers, according to a published report.

The Faribault County Register reports Ryan Feist, 29, was named finalist for Minnesota's Outstanding Young Farmer in 2009, which he won. Consequently, the candidacy of the fifth-generation farmer of land outside Wells, Minnesota was submitted to the national competition.

"I grew up riding on the seat of my dad’s tractor," he told the publication. "I'm just a small hog farmer in Minnesota."

The U.S. Jaycees, the Outstanding Farmers of America Fraternity and the National Association of County Agricultural Agents are the three additional agencies sponsoring the competition.

While holding a variety of responsibilities, his career likely has crossed paths with farm and agricultural machinery such as John Deere Gators, John Deere sprayers and other machinery available for purchase at John Deere dealerships.

He is a board member for the Wells Historical Society and he has served on different subcommittees for the Wells Chamber of Commerce. The advice of the humble man also is down-to-earth.

"You've got to contribute," Feist said. "You're going to get out of life what you put into it."
