St. John's hospital in Joplin, Missouri, the site that became famous for the heroic response to the devastating tornado that tore through the state, has begun to rebuild the buildings and equip its personnel with the latest tools and technology for rescue efforts, according to KOAM 7 Joplin.

The organization recently purchased a used John Deere Gator vehicle to assist the Medical Flight team with rescue missions, due to the reliability and versatility of the farm equipment machine, reported the news source.

"Because we have responsibilities throughout the campus, it allows the flight program staff to stay mission ready and it certainly decreases response time to the aircraft," Rod Pace, the St. John's MedFlight manager, told KOAM 7. "If they're in different parts or different locations on the campus and a flight request comes they're gonna be back on the helipad much quicker."

The vehicle will also help the team to transport critically ill patients that need to be transported to the hospital via the helicopter, reported the news source.

John Deere Gator utility vehicles range in size and horsepower and can be outfitted with a variety of attachments for adaption by any type of organization, according to the company website.
