Home owners in Michigan may be taking used tractors to their lawns as the spring continues on, although how much they shave off from their grass is something they should contemplate.

According to a recent column from the Detroit News, people should try to keep their lawns at least 2.5 inches tall, as doing so can help in a number of ways. Along with requiring less watering, having a longer lawn will cut down on the need to weed or use fertilizer.

Freelance garden writer Jeff Ball said consumers can make sure their new and used tractors are at the correct height by adjusting the mowing deck while on a flat surface, such as a driveway or sidewalk.

"It's lawn mowing season again, and probably 80 percent of the lawns in southern Michigan are being mowed too short," Ball said.

Other options for keeping lawns healthy include making sure used tractor blades are kept sharp. Doing so will give a cleaner cut, thereby preserving the health of grasses by avoiding tearing them apart.ADNFCR-2034-ID-19789963-ADNFCR
