Though many people attending the next installment of the Pennsylvania Farm Show may expect to find agricultural equipment, they should also keep in mind it will feature a number of other events.

The farm show, which starts with a reception on January 8, will be celebrating its 94th year. Along with traditional highlights such as animals and farm equipment, the show will feature cooking contests and educationally-motivated displays.

Russell Redding, who is the acting agriculture secretary for the state, said that the show is an important part of the state's history.

"We are excited to welcome farmers, agribusinesses and consumers to this one-of-a-kind event and look forward to what promises to be another outstanding show," Redding said.

Some of the traditional events for the show that will continue include the butter sculpture, the sheep-to-shawl contest and a high school rodeo. Newer events include a musical that focuses on the history of agriculture.

Along with the upcoming farm show, the state recently celebrated Farm-City Week, which is an event that encourages a greater connection between farmers and people who live in urban areas. The event featured a mobile science lab which helped teach city dwellers about farming.
