North Carolina's Davidson County Cooperative Extension office announced two programs that could benefit farm equipment and used tractor owners.
On October 20, the office will have a lawn care class, which is being offered to the public for free. The instructional seminar will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. and will include a variety of topics, including how to start a new lawn and dealing with insects.
The office also noted the Rural Advancement Foundation International is offering farmers cost-sharing grants, which can be used to develop marketing and processing strategies that will lead to improved incomes. Individual producers may be eligible for as much as $10,000, while groups could qualify for $30,000.
In order to become familiar with the application process associated with the grants, a workshop will be held on November 4.
Another way producers may be able to make a little bit of extra money is by showcasing their fields to tourists. The state's agricultural department announced it is offering signs that will direct travelers to farms that may be off the beaten path.
