People generally employ a used tractor to keep their lawns tidy, though others take to these machines to tear up turf.

According to a recent report from Indiana's Post Tribune, this year's Lake County Fair will give festival goers the chance to see lawn mower races. The grass-related grand prix is new to the fair's grandstand entertainment section and comes courtesy of the American Racing Mowers Association.

According to its website, the ARMA was established in 2005 in order to promote the sport at the national level. The group provides seven race classes, which are set up based on the size of the tractor's engine and the extent to which the machine is modified.

"They use regular riding mowers with souped-up motors," Bub Wise, an entertainment president with the fair, told the Post Tribune.

Along with the riders from the ARMA, local speedsters will be able to enter their used tractors in a special race set up for area residents. Other features of the fair include music, fireworks and a show from the Indiana Truck Pullers Association.ADNFCR-2034-ID-19767790-ADNFCR
